Local AstraZeneca Primary Care Pilot launches

March 16, 2021 – Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph has been chosen to participate in the Province’s AstraZeneca Primary Care Pilot. This project is being delivered as a partnership between WDG Public Health and participating local Family Health Teams.

The pilot will see local physicians vaccinate healthy individuals 60-64 years old with the AstraZeneca vaccine at their primary care location. Members of the public should not contact their primary care provider. Participating physicians will contact eligible patients to book a vaccine. Participating Family Health Teams include:

  • Dufferin Area Family Health Team

  • East Wellington Family Health Team

  • Guelph Family Health Team

  • Minto Mapleton Family Health Team

  • Mount Forest Family Health Team

  • Upper Grand Family Health Team

“This is another key tool in our fight against COVID-19,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of WDG Public Health. “I thank each Family Health Team and each physician for their commitment to helping end the pandemic in our region.”

This pilot is already underway in our region and, as more vaccine becomes available, it can be rolled out to additional primary care offices.
