April 24-28 is National Immunization Week. Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health and CEO issued the following statement in recognition:
“Immunization is one of the bedrock components of good health in our region. We saw over the past three years how important immunization can be to protecting all of us from serious illness. The COVID-19 immunization campaign was the largest one ever undertaken by our region. The willingness of each of us to play our part was core to our region’s high vaccination rates – among the best in North America.
Even as we celebrate our successful immunization campaign against COVID-19, we must not forget the important regular immunizations that will continue to provide protection to each of us moving forward. Whether that’s routine childhood immunizations, annual flu shots or COVID-19 boosters, I am encouraging each of you to make sure your vaccines are and stay up to date.
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has vaccination services for adults and youth. If you have questions about this important component of your health, please contact Public Health or your primary care provider.
Thank you for protecting yourself, your family and friends and your community.”
