Media Release: The flu shot is more important than ever this year

October 13, 2020

October 13, 2020 – The 2020-21 flu season is upon us. Between now and April our region will see its yearly exposure to the flu virus. Immunization against the flu is especially important this fall with COVID-19 also circulating in our communities. WDG Public Health has been encouraged by the enthusiastic response for this year’s flu shot.

“This year more than ever I encourage every resident of Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph who is able to get a flu shot from their physician, pharmacist or Public Health,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Medical Officer of Health. “With COVID-19 cases on the rise the flu shot is an important tool in protecting our community – especially our most vulnerable citizens – and reducing the strain on the health care system as we combat a global pandemic.”

The annual flu immunization is a collaborative effort between many public and private organizations. Here’s where members of the public can get a flu shot:

Age 6 months - 5 years old Ages 5 - 64 65+
  • Family doctor or primary care provider
  • Public Health
