Media Release: Phase 2 reopening in Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph

June 8, 2020

June 8, 2020: The Provincial Government has announced that Ontario will begin to move to Phase 2 of the “Framework for Reopening our Province” on Friday, June 12. This next stage of the process will be applied regionally in Ontario based on the current COVID-19 situation within each region. Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph is moving to Phase 2.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health will work with local healthcare and government partners to ensure that, as our region reopens, safety of the public remains the primary decision-making criteria. Further information on what Phase 2 will look like in Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph will be announced in the coming days.

“This is a positive step for our region,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph. “Cautiously reopening more amenities and businesses means positive economic and physical health benefits for our citizens; both factors in good health.”

“While this is definitely a good sign for our region, we must remain diligent in preventing the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Mercer. “We all must continue to wash our hands, wear a mask and practice physical distancing of two metres. Following these steps will help keep you and your family safe, but also protect your friends and neighbours. The willingness of each of us to do our part will be a key factor in whether we take a step forward or backward in this pandemic.”
