Rockwood bat positive for rabies

September 5, 2019

A bat found lying on a backyard deck in Rockwood has tested positive for rabies. The dog that found the bat had been vaccinated for rabies, and no people were exposed.

Please remember that if you find a bat, don’t go near it. If it’s dead or acting strangely/sick, call the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative at 1-866-673-4781 or your local humane society. Keep animals up-to-date on their rabies vaccines – if you or a pet gets rabies from a wild animal, there is no treatment and the disease is fatal.

This is the fifth bat to test positive for rabies in our area in 2019. For more information, visit wdgpublichealth.ca/rabies.
