Increasing cases in our region prompt updates to Dr. Nicola Mercer’s Section 22 Order

September 15, 2020

March 21, 2022 Update: All Section 22 orders regarding face coverings are rescinded.

September 15, 2020 – Cases of COVID-19 are rising at increasing rates in Wellington Dufferin Guelph. In response, Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is updating the Section 22 Order on mandatory face coverings.

In making this update, Dr. Mercer said, “I am concerned by the increasing numbers in our region. We are seeing COVID-19 cases continue to rise at the same time as schools and campuses reopen. I am including additional establishments within the Section 22 Order to give us the best chance of reducing the spread of the virus.”

Additional establishments include:

  • Banquet halls, convention centres and other event spaces
  • Galleries
  • Museums
  • Private transportation (bus/taxi/limo/ride share)
  • Churches, mosques, synagogues, temples or other faith settings

“Keeping COVID-19 low in the community is vital to protecting all of us and keeping our schools, businesses and other spaces open this fall. We must continue to do everything we can to reduce the spread of the virus – even as we acknowledge the pandemic fatigue we are all feeling,” said Dr. Mercer.

The expanded Section 22 Order will come into effect on September 18, 2020 at 12:01 a.m.
