Menu Labelling

Since January 1, 2017 food service providers with 20 or more locations in Ontario are required by the Healthy Menu Choices Act and Regulation to post the number of calories in the food and beverage items that they sell.

This information will help you make informed choices when choosing food prepared in a restaurant, cafeteria, supermarket, take-out, convenience store or other food service establishment.

Calories must be posted for each standard food item listed on menus and menu boards, as well as on the labels and tags that identify foods that are on display. A statement about average daily calorie needs must also be posted to help consumers better understand their calorie needs and choices.
