ClimateSafe Map: Cooling, Warming and Clean Air Spaces
The ClimateSafe Cooling, Warming and Clean Air Spaces Map is an interactive map that helps residents find publicly accessible locations and services that may be useful during extreme weather events and other climate-related conditions.
The map includes information about locations such as:
- Cooling and warming spaces
- Public washrooms
- Drinking water access points
- Splash pads, pools and recreational water locations
- Libraries, community centres and municipal buildings
- Shelters and community support locations
- Clean air spaces during wildfire smoke or poor air quality events
Using the ClimateSafe Map
The ClimateSafe Map can be used to find nearby locations that may provide temporary relief during periods of extreme heat, extreme cold, wildfire smoke and poor air quality. Locations identified on the map may provide opportunities to cool down or warm up, access drinking water, reduce exposure to poor air quality, rest indoors and connect with community services and supports.
Some locations listed under Services and Supports may offer additional programs or longer-term assistance, depending on the organization and services available.
Note: Users are encouraged to confirm operating hours, accessibility features and service availability directly with the Cooling, Warming and Clean Air facility or organization before visiting.
Why This Map Was Created
Climate change is contributing to more frequent and intense weather and environmental conditions that can affect health, including extreme heat, extreme cold, wildfire smoke, poor air quality and severe weather events.
These conditions can increase the risk of health impacts such as:
- Heat-related illness
- Dehydration
- Respiratory illness
- Cardiovascular health impacts
- Mental health stress
- Other weather-related health concerns
Some individuals may be at greater risk due to age, health status, housing, income, access to transportation or other factors.
The ClimateSafe Map was developed to help residents identify local spaces and services that may be available during these conditions.
