A number of school programs and activities involve the preparation, storage and service of food, including breakfast programs, hospitality, fundraisers, catered meals and barbeques.
Our role is to promote and protect the health of the public. In order to do so, we want to ensure that food is prepared, stored and served safely to reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
All food provided within a school setting must be prepared and handled safely. We offer a food handler certification course that is available to all individuals within our region. Teachers who have completed the training course can subsequently administer the course to their students and our staff will proctor the certification exam. The course includes information on safe food handling practices, basic microbiology, cross-contamination, personal hygiene, proper cleaning and sanitizing and time/temperature abuse.
