POLICY STATEMENT

Physician services provided that include a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) component, will be billed through a special OHIP STI Clinic billing number. Clients are not required to provide their personal OHIP number except for the purposes of lab tests.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all physicians, nurses and clinical support assigned to Clinical Services and School Health teams, and student nurses working in these programs.

PROCEDURE

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reception, Clinic Clerks and Nursing Staff:

During an initial visit with a client requesting sexual health services, their OHIP number is recorded in their chart for the purposes of submitting lab tests. If a client forgets their OHIP card, they are asked to complete a Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Health Number Release form, which authorizes the release of the health card number for the Ministry to the Health Unit.

Physicians:

Physicians record their billable interventions in each client chart following the visit.  Billable interventions are limited to those allowed under the Special STI OHIP billing number.

Program Manager:

Within the first three business days of the following month, the following reports are printed from the electronic database, authorized by the Program Manager and forwarded to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Guelph General Hospital:

  • Individual physician billings for the month; and
  • Amalgamated physician billings for WDGPH for the month.
Program Support Staff:

A copy of each individual physician billings for the month is provided to each physician.
