POLICY STATEMENT

It is the policy of the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to ensure that all Public Health Inspectors with the responsibility for inspecting public swimming pools use a uniform method to determine pool water clarity.

PROCEDURE

  1. All class A and B public swimming pools must have a black disc 150 mm (6”) in diameter affixed to the bottom of the deepest point in the pool.
  2. The black disc must be adhered to a white background not smaller than the narrowest point of the black disc.
  3. The black disc must be clearly visible from any point on the pool deck 9 metres away (30 feet).
  4. Ensure the area of the black disc is cleared of bathers for viewing.
  5. All new staff and students required to inspect swimming pools should be oriented to this policy.
