POLICY STATEMENT

It is the policy of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to inspect Class A & B seasonal and non-seasonal pools to ensure compliance with Ontario Regulation 565/90 and to prevent the spread of communicable disease and accidents.

PROCEDURE

  1. Inspection is to be carried out using the Pool Inspection form provided in Hedgehog and in accordance with Ontario Regulation 565/90, as amended 179/02.   The frequency of pool inspections shall comply with the standards set out in the Ontario Public Health Standards.
  2. Additional inspections may be carried out to investigate complaints.
  3. All deficiencies and requirements are to be recorded on the Pool Inspection form in Hedgehog and a copy is to be sent to the owner/operator. 
  4. If conditions necessitate closure of a pool the appropriate section on the Pool Inspection form in Hedgehog will be completed and a copy presented to the owner/operator as soon as possible. The pool is not to be re-opened until all adverse conditions have been corrected and verified by inspection.  Inspections for compliance and reopening will take place during normal working hours.
  5. The Program Manager is to be notified of all closures.
  6. Non-seasonal pools closed for more than four weeks shall notify the Medical Officer of Health in writing of their intention to open.  All seasonal pools shall be provided yearly, in advance of the swimming season, the Pool Opening Notification form (HPD IP (F)5).  All pools must be inspected by a certified Public Health Inspector and any infractions corrected prior to opening.
