POLICY STATEMENT

Scales are provided for designated Child and Family Health staff to assess weight of infants up to 12 kilograms or 26 pounds.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all employees working in the Child and Family Health Division.

PROCEDURE

  1. Scales are assigned to designated Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) offices. Managers may designate a scale to a particular staff member or location.
  2. Staff shall book out and store scales according to local office practice.
  3. Prior to using the scale, staff will review the assembly, use and services manual for that scale model.
  4. Staff shall clean the scale after each client contact using the Accel-TB solution provided by the Child and Family Health Division, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  5. Scales must be calibrated at a minimum of once per month.  Persons doing calibration to record date of the calibration. This record to be kept with the scale.
  6. Scales must be cared for according to the manufacturer’s instructions as outlined in the assembly, use and service manual.
  7. Scales may be transported using hand trolleys provided in each office.  Staff will ensure that the scales are secured to the trolley.
