POLICY STATEMENT

It is the policy of the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, Health Protection Division that all food premises food related complaints are responded to as soon as possible and within 24 hours.

PROCEDURE

Food Premise Food-Related Complaint:

1.  When responding to a food premise food-related complaint the information is entered into a CSR in Hedgehog.

2.   A Public Health Inspector (PHI) will then carry out an onsite investigation of the complaint according to the Food Premises Regulation and the Health Protection and Promotion Act and document their activities in the Hedgehog CSR.

3.   The complainant shall be informed of the outcome of the investigation unless the complainant has requested otherwise.

Food Product Complaint:

1.  When responding to a food product complaint, ensure the information is entered into a CSR in Hedgehog and inform the complainant of the outcome.

2.   If illness has occurred, see policy and procedure CA.82.01(02).115 Suspect Food-borne Illness; Community Food-borne Illness.

3.   Single anonymous complaints may not be investigated at the discretion of the PHI or based on a risk assessment.

4.   If the food complaint involves any ofthe following, call the Canadian Food Inspection Agency:

•    Allergic reactions to food;
•    Infant food complaints;
•    Microbiological  agents;
•    Chemical contamination;
•    Extraneous material (objects greater than 2mm, glass);
•    Tamper evidence;
•    Products produced in CFIA inspected facilities; or
•    Imported products.
