POLICY STATEMENT

A child receiving Speech and Language services may be discharged from Wee Talk where one of the following criteria exists:

  • They are eligible for Senior Kindergarten status;
  • They reach developmental norms in all areas of communication;
  • They move out of the PSL catchment area (i.e. WDG);
  • They fail to attend greater than 2 appointments without cancelling; or
  • They fail to reply to phone calls or letters regarding follow-up and appointments.

PROCEDURE

  1. Children who are eligible for Senior Kindergarten will be transitioned according to policy CA.93.01.106 Transition to School.
  2. Children who have reached developmental norms in all areas of communication will be discharged and their parents provided with continuing normative data.
  3. Children who move out of the PSL catchment area (i.e. WDG):
  • For children moving within Ontario, this is considered to be a lateral transfer. Parents are urged to contact their new PSL. The new PSL will contact Wee Talk according to the procedures mandated by the Ministry of Child and Youth Services.
  • For children moving outside Ontario, parents are provided with discharge reports and documentation and urged to contact their local preschool services in the new area.
  1. Children who fail to attend for greater than 2 appointments without cancelling shall be discharged in accordance with policy CA.93.01.102 Attendance.
  2. Children whose parents fail to reply to phone calls or letters regarding follow-up and appointments will be discharged in accordance with policy CA.93.01.102 Attendance.
  3. In accordance with MCYS policy, a family may re-activate services at any time within the child’s eligibility.
