Data that is critical to the continued operation of the business must be backed up and a copy stored offsite to facilitate business recovery in the event of an unforeseen disaster. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that critical business processes can continue, or be resumed promptly, in the event of significant disruption to normal business operations.
This policy applies to the Information Technology (IT) department and all departments which need to store/ retrieve data and system structures.
The IT Department will:
- Backup incrementally and encrypt all essential data on a daily basis; and
- Be responsible for restoring operations with the backed up data in case of system failure or unforeseen disaster.
- Be responsible to identify the data that requires backup. For all data that qualifies, the owning department must communicate with the IT Department to ensure it is included in the backup plan.
