Rabies Prevention and Control

GOAL

To prevent the occurrence of rabies in humans.

STRATEGY

REQUIREMENTS 

To report rabies data elements in accordance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act and the Rabies Prevention and Control Protocol, 2008 (or as current).

To address the prevention and control of rabies threats as per a local Rabies Contingency Plan, as outlined in the Rabies Prevention and Control Protocol, 2008

Highlights 

Post Mortem

  1. To date in 2016, 22 specimens were sent to the rabies laboratory for post mortem testing (4 Canine, 2 Feline, 13 Wild animals, 2 Livestock).

All 22 specimens were negative for rabies.

Post Exposure Treatment

  1. To date in 2016, 31 persons received post exposure treatment for known or suspect rabies exposures.
