4(a) MOH Updates
Dr. Mercer provided updates on the following matters:
Bill 177 – Domestic & Sexual Violence Workplace Leave, Accommodation and Training Act, 2016 Update:
- Dr. Mercer contacted Ted Arnott, MPP, Wellington-Halton Hills, as directed by the BOH at the September BOH meeting.
- Bill 177, Domestic and Sexual Violence Workplace Leave, Accommodation and Training Act, 2016, was introduced by NDP MPP Peggy Sattler and brought forward for Second Reading debate on March 10, 2016. As the Ontario PC Labour Critic, T. Arnott spoke in favour of sending it to Committee for further examination. It was referred to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy, but the Committee did not review it. Bill 177 died on the Order Paper when the Government prorogued the Legislature earlier this month. It remains to be seen whether or not Ms. Sattler will re-introduce the Bill.
- T. Arnott currently serves as one of the assistant Speakers in the Ontario Legislature. In that role, T. Arnott helps the Speaker preside over the Legislature and normally takes the Speaker’s Chair every Monday afternoon from 1:00-6:00pm. T. Arnott is one of the assistant Speakers and has not been assigned to a Standing Committee, although any Member is able to go to Committee hearings and participate.
